Although I wasn't able to finish my menus completely; I am almost there and have actually started the take away menu. I have started to reconfigure the logo as well...
Here I have changed the colour of the diamond pattern to greys and whites to let the blue of the dish titles be the focal points...
I have also changed the 'Vegetarian, Gluten Free + Salt Free' indicators to be small coloured dots to make the menu look simpler and not be too crowded with too much typography.
Here I started to rethink the 'O' vector of my logo (roughly)
This cartoon style tomato looks unprofessional and doesn't suit my brand identity.
I quickly tried the same tomato in red and green but still don't like it - however I do like the tomato instead of the spaghetti graphic so I'm definitely going to experiment further with this.
Here are some sketches I did of various Italian foods to use as my 'O' vector - my favourite is the tomato as it is the simplest and looks the most like an O.
Finished Main Menu Design
Here is my final main menu design. I'm really happy as I have managed to fit all of the sections I wanted to in an organised and easy to understand layout. The old photographs at the top show the heritage of the business, the black background gives a more premium feel and the fonts compliment the family friendly and inviting tone of the restaurant.
Back of Menu Design:
At the beginning of production I put this basic idea together of a collage using the old Italian photographs I collected.
Now later in the brief I have made a collage of the modified photographs that would go on the back of the menu clipboards.
Here is the final menu back. This version has more images than the other one.
