Diary Entry:
This week I have completed all of my menus apart from the kids menu and have implemented my final 'O' vector to my finished outcomes that have the logo.
Drinks Menu
Before I had finished my 'o' vector I started the drinks and desserts menu - I began by using the same layout as my main menu but dividing it into sections for drinks and desserts.
I quickly realised that there were too many drinks to fit into the space so I would have to relocate the desserts menu.
Desserts Menu
I decided to add a sheet for the desserts that would sit on top of the drinks menu and the logo and photos would continue from one sheet to the next.I then made the same document for a 'chef's menu of the week' that would sit against the main menu.
Take Away Menu
I first looked at some existing take away menus to see how they are expected to be laid out. What is key is clear sections and legibility as the point of take aways are that they are quick and easy. Therefore I think I will go with a white background instead of the black used with the restaurant menus.
Here I began to transfer my menu content to the InDesign leaflet document...
I decided to add the photographs to keep the design style consistent throughout my outcomes.
I added the logo with 'To Go' below to show that it is a different service to the restaurant menu.
Here is the finished take out menu complete with the dietary indicators.
For the front cover I decided to go with a blue background to show a more relaxed nature to the sit down restaurant look that the other menus have. I have put one of the modified images that has the blue filter over food but I feel it looks a little empty so I'm going to explore other options.
Here is the finished back of the menu following the same design as the inside.
I then tried putting my pizza box mock up on the cover but it still feels disconnected to the other outcomes.
Finally I tried a different modified image and I like this as it fills the space and shows the relaxed but stylish nature of the restaurant.
Final Take Away Menu in Mock-Up:
Take Away Packaging
Here are some existing pizza boxes - I like the more simple and sophisticated black box the most as it is more about the brand than the topic of pizza.
I found a pizza box psd mockup and started to implement my colours and design elements.
I prefer this design of black sides and blue typography.
Finished Pizza Box Design
Coffee Cup
Here are some stylish coffee cup designs that I am inspired by...
I initially tried using the collage of my modified photographs but I received some feedback that it is too small to focus on the images...
I then tried using just one image - but I don't like this particular image with the coffee cup.
Here is a couple having some drinks which would fit better with the outcome of coffee.
Finished Coffee Cup with wooden backdrop.
Carrier Box
I applied my modified photograph collage to each side of the box but I haven't decided yet whether it will make it to my printed outcomes.
Shopping Bags...
Here is a simple design for a takeaway bag with just the To Go version of the logo.
Here are the bags with a wooden backdrop. However I had some feedback that the logos down the side of the back looked odd.
I also had some feedback that the collage could be exchanged with just one image...
Here is the bag with just one image (the same image that is on the cover of the take away menu)
I then designed a graphic that I would like on my uniforms that I feel works well for the shopping bag as well. I also changed the bag colour to black of the one behind.
Finished take away bags.
